Character
A physically honest ridge walk across all of Slovakia: long climbs, dense forests, the open ridges of the Fatra and Low Tatras and a living bothy tradition.

Slovakia's longest trail: 770 km on red waymarks from Devín to the Dukla Pass across the ridges of the Little Carpathians, Greater Fatra and Low Tatras.
The Path of the Heroes of the SNP crosses the whole of Slovakia and holds the place for Czechs and Slovaks that the Appalachian Trail holds for Americans — long, physically honest and with its own community and bothy tradition. Over 31,000 m of climbing and long ridgeline sections make it a demanding thru-hike that also splits well into parts.
Quick orientation of the route line, start, end and elevation profile.
Approximate total based on community thru-hike measurements (cestasnp.sk).

Bothies (útulne) are free or donation-based; food and water are handled by descending to villages. Costs rise only where the trail passes towns (Banská Bystrica, Zvolen).
May to September; the Low Tatras ridges hold snow into late May and summer storms arrive fast.

Experienced hikers with a tent or a sleeping bag for the bothies who want a big continuous crossing wilder in character than the Alps.
25-32 days in one push at ~27 km per day; commonly walked in thirds (west/centre/east) with access from Bratislava, Banská Bystrica and Prešov.
Devín and Dukla are both reachable by bus, and the route repeatedly crosses railways and roads. Water is the key topic on the ridges — plan around the springs listed on cestasnp.sk.
Descents to villages every 1-2 days; bigger resupply in Banská Bystrica, Zvolen and Brezno. Bothies carry only basic supplies.
No permits; bivouac rules apply in the national parks (Low Tatras, Greater Fatra) — use the bothies and official campsites.
